A STEP AHEAD ON THE RACING COURSE
A STEP AHEAD ON THE RACING COURSE
Progressive innovation has been successfully tested by the GA Wing team at the Wingfoil Racing World Cup China!
Last week the highest ranked Wingfoil Racing World Cup in 2024 took place in China and our team received the latest JET wing prototypes just before the event to utilize the new levels of performance right away on the racing course. Unfortunately, conditions didn't play along on finals day and Maddalena and Nicoló Spanu as well as Romain Ghio couldn't make use of their gear upgrade in the medal races, but we're extremely happy to see Maddalena finish in second, Nicoló in seventh and Romain in tenth position.
Huge congratulations to the team and also to Urs Hungerbühler, who designed an impressively performing racing wing. He spared no effort creating this dedicated racing machine with a unique technology and we're excited to see this groundbreaking innovation evolve.
At the core of the latest JET's peformance is a unique material mix, which has been tested in action for the first time at the World Cup in China. The leading edge and strut frame as well as the canopy are comprised of groundbreaking laminate materials with a dense X-Ply fiber structure, which offer an unrivalled weight to strength ratio.
Especially the implementation of this laminate material for the canopy instead of using spinnaker was an extremely exciting and successful step. We're using absolute top-class spinnakers by Teijin in our serial prodution wings already, but the stiffness and responsiveness of the laminate material surpassed our expectations in radical racing conditions.
Urs Hungerbühler - Head of design wing / kite / foil:
"We have been experimenting a lot with different materials over the past years and with access to latest innovation and the complete portfolio of all renown manufacturers of canopy, Dacron, laminates etc. we have the opportunity to think outside the box and come up with innovative solutions. Especially in a highly competitive realm like racing this really is an advantage and huge opportunity to develop the wings of the future."
Another important adjustment, which was optimized for the latest prototypes, is the double profile sail covering 50% of the wing's surface, which allows us to achieve unrivalled controllability and stability in the profile - also on bigger sizes like the newly developed JET 6.8. Together with two long battens on both sides of the strut, which reach 20cm into the double profile, the wind range of each size was massively extended at the top-end.
The last major addition, implemented into the newest racing wings, is the new Carbon boom, which is extremely light and stiff allowing you to easily control and maneuver the JET in the most radical conditions. Stay tuned for more exciting news about this coming soon!
Romain Ghio - World Cup athlete:
"The new JET wings felt absolutely incredible right from the first start in China. Super fast, massive power generation and still extremely easy to handle and steer. I really can't wait for the next races to start, because this is a huge step in wing design."
Non-stop development by Urs and the GA team has definitely paid off and they can't wait to see the latest JET wings in action at the next Wingfoil Racing Tour events in Sardinia and Brazil.
The race for innovation in wing design and the highest performance in wingfoil racing is on and we're more than happy to have Urs and our R&D team on board, who create products that not only are state of the art, but have the potential to set new standards and truly innovate.
